FAQs
Is coaching right for me?
- Are you feeling stuck or unfulfilled? Do you need help to break out of the cycle?
- Are you ready to pursue a new objective or to take on your next challenge, but have doubts and concerns?
If so, life and career coaching will give you the support you need to achieve your personal and professional goals faster and more effectively.
How can coaching help me?
Coaching is a collaborative, goal-orientated process designed to assist you in achieving your objectives. A coach works with you to clarify your aspirations, formulate an action plan, and cultivate the behaviours, strategies, and mindset necessary to remain focussed, and surmount obstacles.
Just as a fitness coach helps you to stay motivated, push your limits and reach your physical goals faster, a career and life coach empowers you to achieve your personal and professional goals.
What can coaching help me with?
While there is often an overlap between life and career, which is why it is helpful to work with someone who is qualified to coach you across all areas of life, life and career coaching differ in terms of their main focus.
Life coaching can help you to:
- create a clear life vision,
- create a more fulfilling, balanced and purpose-driven life,
- improve specific areas such as relationships, wellbeing or self-esteem,
- navigate life transitions,
- deal with specific challenges or obstacles,
- break free from unhelpful or unfulfilling patterns.
Career coaching can help you to:
- identify your key strengths and development areas,
- unlock your potential and improve your performance,
- become a more effective leader,
- navigate career changes (e.g. growing your business, preparing for new or more senior roles or shifting into a new career),
- develop your resilience and work-life balance.
How to judge if a coach is right for me?
A successful coaching partnership hinges on trust, respect, collaboration, and mutual commitment to your goals. Therefore, in addition to ensuring that your coach has the appropriate experience and qualifications, it is also important to ensure that you are ‘compatible’ in terms of style and personality. Make sure you feel comfortable with your coach and that you trust they can support you on your path towards your goals.
How does coaching differ from psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health and emotional concerns that disrupt your wellbeing and daily life. By delving into past experiences, its aim is to heal and mitigate their adverse impact on your present. Comparable to seeking physiotherapy for physical injuries, psychotherapy is recommended upfront for those grappling with acute emotional distress or seeking healing from past traumas.
Conversely, coaching is forward-looking and driven by goals. It concentrates on empowering individuals to achieve personal and professional aspirations while enhancing overall wellbeing and life satisfaction. Just as we go to the gym to maintain or enhance our physical fitness, or to prepare for a challenge, coaching helps us to improve and maintain our mental and emotional fitness.
Please note that the coaching services I provide are distinct from psychotherapy and should not be seen as a substitute. My focus is solely on coaching, and I do not offer psychotherapy services.
Are career coaches and career advisors the same?
The terms “career coach” and “career advisor” are often used interchangeably, but there are subtle differences.
A “career coach” often work with clients over a longer period, providing a more personalized and holistic assistance e.g. helping them set goals, develop strategies, and navigate career transitions.
On the other hand, a “career advisor” may focus more on providing information, guidance and resources on specific career-related topics e.g. offering assistance with resume writing, job search strategies, and career planning.
Please note that I do not offer career advisory services.
